C. Dear Sir: We fail to find, either in the Congressional Directory or Who's Who, statements in reference to the European racial descent of Senator Underwood. We are making a survey of the European descent of noted men and are just now finishing the member of the United States Senate. We have more than half of the returns, but so far have failed to receive the desired genealogical note concerning Senator Underwood. We would greatly appreciate it if you would be good enough to fill out, to the best of your ability, the blanks on the bottom of this sheet and return it. Very sincerely, [signed] Harry H. Laughlin, Secretary. Senator Oscar Underwood European racial descent (such as English, Scotch, Irish, German, French)[dotted line][handwritten text]English[end handwritten text] [end]
