February 23, 1927.
Honorable Wm. Cabell Bruce,
United States Senate,
Washington, D.C.
Mr. Senator:
Permit me to thank you for your letter of February 5th in reference to the geographical and ancestral records of members of the United States Senate. Permit me to explain that this study has nothing to do with politics in any manner; that it is simply a study of geographical and racial origins of members of the United States Senate. We have received a majority of these returns and hope to conclude the study by the time Congress adjourns. We trust that in view of this new explanation, you will be good enough to supply the needed facts.
Very sincerely,
H.H. Laughlin,
Secretary.
