2206. -2- questions and speaks properly, but is irresponsible and unreliable, unable to perform on her own account quite simple household duties. The birth, life and death of the child who died, had little effect on her and she showed scarcely any motherly instinct. Strong sexual instinct prevails however, and she had to be carefully watched even within the precincts of the Workhouse. She continues to live there having no other home and the Matron does all in her power to work on what affection she has in order to keep her there. 1V 14 A girl who died a month old. 1V 16. This girl 33 or 34, has an almost identical history as her sister 1V 12. She lives in the same Workhouse and lives in much the same manner except that her temper has been more difficult to cope with and that some time ago she constantly threatened to drown herself. She also has 2 illegitimate children, the fathers are both unknown, the girl herself remembering nothing about them not even their names. It is supposed that they were of the labouring type. She, like her sister is irresponsible and quite unfit to manage affairs of any kind. 1V 18 Was a boy of no name who only lived a few hours. 1V 19 Another boy who died at 1 years old. 1V 20 A girl living at home on the farm who died at 16 from Diphtheria. Was spoken of as a "comical child" and from another account speaking of her infantile behaviour we may gather that at least she could not be normal. 1V 28 For some years this girl, now 28, lived with her grandmother and at times has also been to rough service in the neighbourhood.
