1 or other experts who are experienced in heredity or in the
2 diseases of the eye to examine either applicant, or any relative
3 affected by blindness, and make reports on such persons, and may
4 adjourn the hearing for not more than ten days pending the making
5 of such reports. The judge or justice may permit either party at the
6 hearing to present evidence, oral or written, to examine the phy-
7 sicians making reports, and he shall determine on the evidence
8 as presented, including reports of the physicians and the
9 papers certified by the clerk, whether there is sufficient ground
10 for believing that the applicant is afflicted with hereditary blind-
11 ness. If the judge or justice decides that the action of the clerk
12 should be sustained, he shall fix the amount of the bond.
13 Each physician appointed by the judge or justice shall receive
14 not to exceed twenty dollars a day for each day necessarily em-
15 ployed in making investigation and testifying at the hearing.
16 A bond given under the provision of this section shall be in
17 effect only until the woman reaches the age of forty-five years.
18 A bond no longer in effect may be cancelled on the application of
19 any person bound thereunder.
