Case study in sex immorality

[handwritten document identification number] A:3174 - 4 [end handwritten document identification number] [page number] -2- [end page number] The girls were found Nov. 3" and returned to Lancaster. T. claims this was her first sex offence. Since that time T. has been placed on probation in 7 different places. Sept. 8, 1909-Sept. 21, 1909, -Oct. 6, 1910-Oct. 19, 1910-Nov. 16, 1910-March 9, 1911-March 30, 1911. She ran away from three of these places and had immoral relations with men she had never seen before. They paid her from $1 to $3 a night. In one instance she picked up a man at a moving picture show in Boston next whom she sat. Something funny in a picture made them both laugh. He leaned over and said, "Funny wasn't it?" They conversed during the rest of the performance. At the close he asked where she was going. She answered she didn't know. "O come along with me." "I don't care." He took her to a law hotel in Boston where they lived together for 2 weeks. He bought her clothes and gave her money. At the end of this time she left him, gave herself up to the probation officer and was returned to Lancaster. She has run away from Lancaster 3 times, the last offence June 1", 1911. In all places where she was placed on probation, the people complained of her temper, trouble-making propensities, impertinence, indolence and unmanageableness. In telling her own story T. claims that she knew perfectly well what she was doing in all cases but that she never thought of consequences. At first she erred out of curiosity, then because she liked the experience. This girl may be classed as a defective delinquent. Her mental ability is good. She passed very creditably the adult Binet test, but is absolutely lacking in judgment or reasoning powers. She has no sex control and will undoubtedly become a prostitute unless segregated. She works well under supervision, does beautiful embroidery. But the moment strict surveillance is withdrawn becomes indolent and careless in her work and habits. T. is untrustworthy in word and action, has been known to steal from employers. There is no economic consideration here, as the girl is perfectly capable of earning a good living and has a comfortable home. Home. XX G. Ave., Roxbury, Mass. G. Ave. is a little alley leading from G. St.
